Why Fall Is the Best Time to Pressure Wash Your Home’s Exterior

Why You Should Pressure Wash the Exterior of Your Home in the Fall

If your siding has put on a greenish hue over the summer, or the driveway and walkways are not as presentable as they used to be, you may be asking yourself if this is the time to address it.

The answer is yes. In fact, fall is an excellent season for a good cleaning of your home’s exterior and the Under Pressure team can tell you why. We are a Corvallis pressure washing company with a footprint that extends from Salem and Eugene to Albany and other parts of the Willamette Valley. For a discussion of your project, call (541) 327-4926.

What Summer Has Left Behind

Your home’s exterior takes its toll during the warm months. Between the sun and humidity, not to mention pollen and rain, you will find a season’s worth of accumulation on the windows, siding and walkways. Some of it is more than cosmetic.

Autumn finds you with:

  • Algae and mildew, which make a habit of warm, damp places
  • Siding and windows with tree sap and pollen baked on
  • Driveways and sidewalks covered in tracked in dirt and dust
  • Commercial surfaces and fleet vehicles with their share of grease and road residue
  • Corners and eaves harboring cobwebs and insect nests

Do not think these issues will bide their time until spring; in an Oregon winter they will continue to work at your surfaces.

A Matter of Timing in the Valley

Once fall is upon us the Willamette Valley sees its share of rain. Let the wet season start with algae and mildew on your siding and they have all they need to put down roots and spread come winter.

By way of prevention, a fall cleaning removes the grime and what would feed it before the rain makes a fixture of it. A surface that is clean will not be so accommodating to new growth when the weather turns cold and damp. The milder temperatures of the season also allow for a more efficient job than one would get in the height of midsummer.

Putting Your Home in Order for Winter

Moisture is the enemy of long term wear and organic buildup such as mildew and algae will hold it right up against your siding. It is best to clear that away before the wet months arrive.

Then there are the safety considerations for your driveways and walkways. Hard surfaces become slippery with wet leaves and algae, a genuine concern when frost and rain come around. An all around cleaning now is a way to mitigate the risk of a slip later in the season.

Using the Proper Method

One should not apply high pressure to every surface, and we make a point of knowing the difference. Under Pressure has three ways of doing things:

  • A hot-water power wash where the grease and buildup is particularly tenacious
  • Soft washing for anything too delicate for high pressure
  • Straight pressure washing for concrete driveways and the like

With soft washing we forgo the brute force in favour of lower pressure and some cleaning solutions to protect the material. Other companies will put the label of “pressure washing” on everything and be done with it. We employ quality, eco-friendly equipment and take the trouble to do it right.

For Homes and Businesses Alike

We do commercial work as well as residential. Our mobile service will wash a whole fleet or just one truck. There is an impression to be made with a clean storefront and vehicle come winter, and we can remove the road residue of the season.

Our position in the heart of the valley in Corvallis is something of an advantage. We can be south in Eugene or north of Salem toward McMinnville in short order, making scheduling a simple matter.
